Published online: Jun 09 2009

On the occasion of the first Issue of Volume 2 of our peer-reviewed Journal “Facts, Views & Vision in ObGyn” it is time to look back and assess what we have accomplished after one year of publication.

First of all I want to thank the Flemish Society of Obstetrics and Gynaecology to grant us the opportunity to initiate this project and for supporting our work with great enthusiasm.

All issues were published and distributed on time to more than 2500 gynaecologists. The first issue of our Journal was also distributed to 8000 participants at the Annual ESHRE meeting in Amsterdam, the second issue was distributed in Belgrade on the occasion of the Annual ESGO meeting.

Our Journal is dedicated to issues on Obstetrics, Gynaecology and Reproductive Health. We are specifically looking for original scientific articles in clinical and laboratory research relevant to gynaecology, obstetrics, perinatal medicine, reproductive medicine, contraception, family planning, gynaecological oncology, urogynaecology and menopause. We are convinced that the journal will be able to offer a unique forum for socio-cultural, ethical, philosophical, health-economical and political debates related to our work as gynaecologists . Regarding the facts: original studies, pilot-studies, reviews and PhD summaries will continue to be the backbone of the journal. We are also looking forward to viewpoint papers critically commenting the facts that are provided in the literature. Last but not least, we welcome strong opinions of international key
opinion leaders, shedding a visionary dimension to what is currently raising an interest in our broad field of medicine.

All papers are subjected to a strict peer-review process. I want to take this opportunity to thank the referees for their highly appreciated efforts. In the near future, it is our aim to create a reviewers’profile data bank in order to increase the quality of referee’s reports and to achieve speedy expert reviews.

In the meantime our Publisher “Universa Press” provided us with all facilities needed to run a new International Scientific Journal including the establishment of an excellent user-friendly website. We aspire to reach as many interested people as possible, including those countries with limited resources. In order to make that possible, free access to all our papers is available on the website: www.fvvo.be.

We are also honored to have Koen Vanmechelen as our artistic reviewer. Koen Vanmechelen is one of most influential contemporary artists; finding his inspiration at the crossroads of art, science, politics, philosophy and ethics. Opinion and viewpoint papers will continue to be confronted with his artistic interpretation of the issues at hand to further stimulate and encourage discussions in a truly holistic context, adding to our journal a unique dimension.

In the next few years we want Facts, Views & Vision in ObGyn to achieve the highest standards, covering the total picture of female health. In order to achieve our goal: becoming a PubMed cited journal, we will continue to facilitate a strong collaboration between the editorial board, the referees and the authors. Allow me to express my gratitude to all of you who have made the journal’s first volume a success and I look forward to hear from many of you with suggestions, criticism and, of course, high quality submissions to secure the future of our journal.
